3 dead, 4 Seriously Injured in NY Boat Accident

Three people were killed and four others seriously injured after their 40-foot boat ran aground in marshland off New York’s Long Island.

Nassau County police say the boat captain was thrown off the craft when it hit the marsh about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The man was dead when rescuers got to him. Another male and a female also were dead. The four survivors were taken to nearby hospitals.

Authorities do not know what caused the accident. They say the boat was navigating a channel when it ran aground near the Wantagh (WAHN’-tah) State Parkway. Police, fire and U.S. Coast Guard rescuers responded.
