Eastham woman killed in car accident
An elderly woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Wellfleet Thursday afternoon, Jan. 7.
Police say it appears a Toyota Camry was exiting Village Lane across from the Wellfleet Drive-In onto Route 6 when it was struck broadside by a Jeep Wrangler. The impact sent the Camry across the highway into some trees in front of the cinemas. The woman driving the Camry, Martha Baumgaerter, 75, of Eastham was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, Diana Zaglio, 41, of Orleans was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is under investigation by the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Crash Reconstruction team and the Sheriff’s Dept. Bureau of Criminal investigation, Eastham Police and Cape Cod National Seashore Rangers. Traffic was diverted around the scene onto West and Aspinet roads.
