Judge Rules in Favor of Florida Wrongful Death Suit Standing

A judge has denied a request by the University of Central Florida to stop a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Ereck Plancher.

Plancher was a freshman football player who died one year ago after an off-season practice at the campus.

An autopsy showed the stress of the workout aggravated a blood disorder that attacked Plancher’s organs.

Lawyers for UCF said Plancher signed waivers that cleared the university of liability, but the judge said that’s not enough.

Plancher’s parents said the people supervising the practice never noticed their son was suffering from problems and failed to treat him properly.
