University saddened by students’ road accident deaths

NUI Galway has said it is deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of four of its students in a car accident last night.

The car they were travelling in was involved in a head-on crash with a truck on the N17 between Ballindine and Milltown.

A fifth woman is in a critical conditon and the truck driver received serious injuries.

Mary O’Riordan, vice president of student experience NUI Galway, said the untimely deaths have shocked the university community and it will do all it can to support the students during this very difficult time.

Garda technical experts are continuing to examine the scene of the crash.
