Wrongful death lawsuit in cycle crash settled

A Duluth trucking company that’s no longer in business has settled a wrongful death lawsuit.

The settlement involves Monson Trucking and a famil. He died in 2007 on Interstate 35 near Proctor when a Monson truck suddenly stopped in front of him.

An attorney for the victim’s widow said the truck driver hadn’t been trained how to handle an overheated vehicle. Michael Zimmer said the victim slammed on his brakes to avoid the truck, but a car struck the victim’s motorcycle from the rear and pushed him into the truck.

The Duluth News Tribune says the two sides settled for an undisclosed amount of money before Tuesday’s pretrial hearing.

Owner Michael Monson cited the economy when he closed the 94-year-old company in August 2009.
