Wrongful death suit filed against Napa county jail

A woman has filed a wrongful death suit against Napa County after her son committed suicide while incarcerated at the Napa County Department of Corrections.

Gayle Brock alleges that jail officials did not provide Scott Mostek proper psychiatric or psychological care while he was an inmate, according to her complaint filed in Napa County Superior Court.

Mostek was arrested on March 2, 2009, in Napa. After he was booked, he requested help several times, the document states.

Mostek either was not provided care at all or within a reasonable time “given his risk for suicide,” the document states.

On March 20, Mostek was placed in solitary confinement. The lawsuit alleges the cell contained several items that Mostek could use to harm himself, including a bed sheet and a place where a sheet or other item could be securely attached.

That same day, Mostek hung himself using the bed sheet.

Brock alleges that the county was negligent in failing to prevent Mostek from committing suicide. She is asking for funeral expenses, costs of the suit and any damages she suffered as a result of losing her loved one.
