Yet Another Child Dumped at Hospital Under Safe Haven Law
Nebraska’s law says anyone can leave a child at a hospital without fear of prosecution for the abandonment. The law uses the word “child” and doesn’t include an age limit. The law seems like a big joke to me. Are you kidding me? And yes, I understand I’m not the only one.
Nebraska authorities say an 11-year-old girl has become the 29th child to be left at a hospital under the state’s much-criticized safe haven law.
State child and families division chief Todd Landry says the girl was left Friday morning at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha. She’s from Douglas County, which includes Omaha. Landry says the girl was dropped by her mother.
An 8-year-old Indiana boy was left at the same hospital Thursday morning.
