Jury Awards Woman $3.5 Million Malpractice Verdict

February 16, 2018

A 53-year-old woman on Thursday won a $3.5 million medical malpractice verdict against two surgeons and their business.

After nine hours of deliberation, a civil jury found the doctors responsible for the woman’s painful condition, her attorneys said.

Her lawyers said their client underwent surgery for blocked arteries. But they claim that the doctors used an improper grafting technique, leading to blood loss and various injuries, including damage to her spinal cord, which left the woman paraplegic and unable to walk, though she still has some feeling in her legs. She’s in constant pain.

The woman walked in to the hospital in “4-inch heels and she was never able to walk out,” adding that the verdict has given her a sense of security. The jury awarded Little $1.3 million in non-economic damages, $2 million for future medical bills, and more than $200,000 for her prior bills.

An attorney for the doctors said the complication that occurred in the woman’s aorta surgery is known to happen “in the best of hands” and that the technique was appropriate.

“This is a nice lady who had a poor outcome, but it was not malpractice by these two well-trained surgeons,” the doctor’s attorney said. “We are reviewing the case for appeal.” He also expects the amount awarded to be reduced as a matter of law.

truck accident

A  trucker could face charges after his semitrailer rolled on an Interstate scattering a load of tomatoes.

A Highway Patrolman  says the 36-year-old truck driver was driving east around 4 a.m. Tuesday when he descended a hill too fast and couldn’t negotiate a curve in the road. He says the driver suffered minor injuries.

The Highway Patrolman says the wrecked semitrailer was struck later by another eastbound vehicle. He says an adult and child in that vehicle were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.  He expected the driver to be cited for undetermined traffic violations.

Football Player In Fatal Car Accident

February 13, 2018

A highly rated midfielder has been involved in a fatal car crash after he lost control of his car on a freeway.

He is currently in the hospital with multiply injuries while his three friends who were traveling with him in the car died at the scene of the crash.

The footballer was driving back from a night out when he veered off the road and collided with a tree.

The first official news on the accident was provided by the Fire Department Chief who confirmed that there was only one car involved in the crash.

Another car carrying more friends arrived on the scene of the accident afterwards eager to find out what had happened. The footballer is said to have been conscious when he was pulled from the wreckage but had sustained serious injuries.

The Director of the hospital where he was taken after the crash, said “the footballer has fractured his right humerus, right clavicle and has bruised his right lung.” He clarified that the player’s condition was stable but he remains in intensive care under observation.

The firefighter who helped pull the footballer from the crash site said, “He told us he lost control of the car.”

Toyota Withheld Crash Lawsuit Evidence

February 12, 2018

According to a Congressman, Toyota deliberately withheld key vehicle design and testing evidence in lawsuits filed by Toyota drivers injured in crashes due to faulty Toyota cars. The Representative is chairman of the oversight committee and sent a letter to Toyota’s top North American executive that accused Toyota of settling cases with injured parties before having to disclose its testing data on potential problems with Toyota vehicles.

To put it in the Representative’s own words, Toyota’s internal documents “show a systematic disregard for the law and routine violation of court discovery orders in litigation.” Toyota responded by stating that it is common for defendants to object to demands for documents made in lawsuits.

The federal regulators involved in this extended saga have accused Toyota of concealing safety problems over cases of sudden unintended acceleration due to gas pedal problems. This claim made by the House of Representatives only goes to further substantiate Toyota’s overall climate of secrecy and profit-over-safety.

This can only make a bigger mess for Toyota to clean up.
