Children Attacked by Bulldogs

August 23, 2018

Authorities say a pair of bulldogs attacked five children until the oldest fought off the dogs with a shovel.

The dogs were euthanized after Monday’s attack. Their owners face a fine of up to $1,000 or 90 days in jail.

The dogs attacked a 14-year-old boy, his three siblings, ages 9 to 12, and a 10-year-old relative.

Police believe the dogs broke out of their yard and approached the younger children, who were playing outside their nearby home. When the children ran inside, the dogs followed.

The 14-year-old boy was inside when the attack began and fought off the dogs with a shovel. He remains hospitalized but hopes to be home by Christmas. The other children have been treated and released from the hospital.

Elderly Women Suffers Dog Bite Injuries

August 15, 2018

According to the TV news, a woman tried to keep it from happening, she says she called the pound as recently as Saturday to warn animal control two of her neighbors dogs were loose.

“I’ve called the pound at least ten times,” she said.

The dogs escaped from their backyard on Thursday morning, attacking an elderly neighbor just before noon.

“It was a little more than your normal dog bite I guess” Director of Animal Services  said.

The woman tried to fight the dogs off with a gardening tool. She was on her own property when the attack happened.

“It’s awful,” she said about the thought of her neighbor being mauled by two dogs.

She said the dogs left a large laceration on her leg. The woman was treated at the hospital while the dogs were quarantined at the Animal Shelter.

There are reports of an average of 400 dog bites each year.

If you have suffered a dog bite injury, it is first off, important to identify the animal that bit you, because if it is a stray and you cannot identify it, you’re facing the possibility of having to submit to treatment for rabies, which can be painful.

Also, if you were attacked by a dog or any wild animal being kept by a person, you are entitled to receive financial compensation from the animal’s owner, and you may need that compensation to pay your medical bills, reimburse you for lost income, pay for cosmetic surgery in the future, and help you overcome the pain and suffering from your injuries. Under the personal injury statute of limitations you have 2 years to file a claim for your dog bite injuries. If you think you do have claim you should contact a dog bite injury lawyer, many of which offer free consultations.

Appeals Court Hears Wrongful Death Arguements

August 12, 2018

It’s been 16 years since a football player was shot and killed.

On Thursday, court proceedings continued with no telling how long the legal battle will continue.

This time, the venue was the Court of Appeals.

The court heard oral arguments in the in favor of the victim wrongful death lawsuit against the man who admitted to shooting the football player.

The the family of the football player won the wrongful death suit against the accused and were awarded $63 million.

The shooter’s attorneys are appealing the judgment, claiming the civil suit exceeded the statute of limitations and was filed too late.

They also argue the judgment was excessive.

Over the next couple of weeks, the Court of Appeals hopes to have a decision made for the sake of both parties.

The shooter was not in court Thursday.

We’re told his attorneys are prepared to take this case to the Supreme Court if the Appeals Court doesn’t rule in his favor.

Construction site accident takes 3 lives

August 8, 2018

A construction accident Wednesday afternoon  has left three people dead.

The Fire Department said four construction workers were on a scaffold that fell several stories at a parking garage construction site.

“Scaffolding fell from the 11th story, landing on about the 7th or 8th story,” the Assistant Fire Chief  said.

One construction worker managed to hang on, another clung for his life on top of the garage and the other two fell straight to the ground.

“It sounded like somebody stepped on a piece of wood, and then I grabbed the dude I was working with, and we took off,” a construction worker  said.

The two workers on the ground and the one on top of the garage were taken to the hospital and later died. The fourth survived.

Now investigators search for clues as to what exactly happened.

As with any workplace death, Occupational Safety and Health Administration was on the scene, as well as the Police Department’s homicide unit.

“That is standard procedure in any death where homicide detectives respond to the scene to determine whether something is suspicious, accidental or homicide,” a police spokesman said.

The construction company and the architects on the project were unavailable for comment, as of press time.

All witnesses know is that they have an image in their minds that will remain a reminder of a tragic incident.

“There were three different sets of paramedics, each working on each guy, and all three of them are sitting there giving CPR to every single one of the victims that fell down,” a nearby business owner said.
